MUMBAI, 13 Dec (Commoditiescontrol): The peanut market is currently witnessing a prolonged slump, with prices either remaining stable or showing a consistent downward trend over the past several days. On Friday, peanut prices stayed unchanged, reflecting the subdued mood in the market.
According to traders, peanut prices are hovering between ₹800 and ₹1,150 per 20 kg, levels last seen 8–10 years ago. They note that this is the first time in a decade that the market has faced such a significant downturn. Meanwhile, mill owners attribute the situation to an abundant stock of peanuts this year, leading to no urgency for fresh purchases. Additionally, export demand remains weak, prompting buyers to procure only as needed, confident that the market will continue to supply sufficient quantities without requiring stockpiling.
Currently, Gujarat is seeing daily arrivals of around 60,000–70,000 bags (1 bag = 35 kg), with further declines in arrivals expected in the coming days.
In Gondal Mandi, arrivals stood at approximately 20,000 bags, with average-quality peanuts priced between ₹1,050–1,090 per 20 kg and the best-quality peanuts fetching ₹1,100–1,230 per 20 kg. In Rajkot Mandi, an estimated 30,000 bags were pending trade. Prices for average-quality peanuts ranged from ₹875–1,225 per 20 kg, while best-quality peanuts were priced between ₹860–1,200 per 20 kg. Across Saurashtra, the total arrivals were around 35,000–40,000 bags.
In Northern Gujarat, Disa Mandi reported arrivals of 7,313 bags, with prices ranging from ₹1,080–1,420 per 20 kg. Meanwhile, in Panthawada Mandi, 14,115 bags were recorded, with prices between ₹1,000–1,340 per 20 kg.
With ample stock and limited export demand, market participants expect peanut prices to remain under pressure in the near term.
