MUMBAI, 14 Jan (Commoditiescontrol):India's exports of textiles and apparel (T&A) surged by 12.82% in December 2024, compared to the same month in the previous year, according to the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI). Textiles exports alone grew by 12.76%, while apparel exports rose by 12.89%.
Cumulative Growth
During April to December 2024, T&A exports registered a cumulative growth of 7.63% compared to the same period in 2023. Textiles saw a growth of 4.87%, while apparel exports rose sharply by 11.58% year-on-year.
Export Highlights
- Cotton Yarn and Handloom Products: Exports grew by 11.98% in December 2024 and by 2.82% during April-December 2024.
- Man-Made Yarn and Fabrics: A 12.53% increase in December and a cumulative growth of 5.31% during April-December.
- Jute Manufacturing: December exports surged by 51.58%.
- Carpets and Handicrafts: Handicrafts saw a 14.90% increase in December, while carpets grew by 9.15%.
The share of textiles and apparel in total exports rose to 8.58% in December 2024, up from 7.53% a year earlier.
Import Trends
India's imports of cotton raw materials increased by a staggering 384.87% in December 2024, signaling rising demand for cotton waste. Textile yarn and fabric imports grew by 9.69% during the month and by 3.27% during April-December 2024.
The strong performance reflects India's robust export competitiveness, driven by steady demand for handloom products, man-made fabrics, and apparel globally.
