Mumbai, 16 Jan (Commoditiescontrol): The latest USDA weekly Export Sales Report has revealed a significant surge in US cotton export sales for the 2024/2025 marketing year. Net sales of Upland cotton totaling 316,200 running bales (RB) were up noticeably from the previous week and 71 percent from the prior four-week average.
Turkey and Vietnam emerged as the top buyers, with net sales of 102,100 RB and 79,400 RB, respectively. Other major destinations included Pakistan, Bangladesh, and China. Exports of 224,800 RB reached a marketing-year high, up 17 percent from the previous week and 56 percent from the prior four-week average.
The report also highlighted a decline in Pima cotton net sales, which dropped 55 percent from the previous week. However, exports of Pima cotton remained unchanged from the previous week.
The strong demand for US cotton from Turkey and Vietnam is a positive sign for the US cotton industry. The surge in export sales is expected to support cotton prices in the coming weeks. However, the ongoing global economic uncertainty and trade policies will likely continue to influence the US cotton export landscape.
