Kapas Arrivals Up in Madhya Pradesh Mandis; Cotton Seed Prices Decline

Indore, May 20 (Commodities Control): The mandis of Madhya Pradesh recorded a significant increase in the arrival of Kapas on Monday, the first trading day of the week. The arrival figures surged from 100-400 bales to 1,000-1,400 bales compared to Saturday, with each bale weighing 170 kg.

Despite the rise in arrivals, the average price of Kapas remained stable, ranging between Rs 6,300 to Rs 7,400 per quintal. However, cotton seed prices saw a decline of Rs 50 at the upper level, with the average price now quoted at Rs 2,750 to Rs 2,950 per quintal.

Cotton candy prices also held steady. In Madhya Pradesh, the price for 29 mm 75 RD cotton remained unchanged at Rs 56,500 to Rs 57,000 per candy, each candy weighing 356 kg. Similarly, the price for 28.5 mm cotton stayed stable at Rs 55,900 to Rs 56,300 per candy.

In related developments, the Traders Association in the Bhikangaon agricultural produce market in Khargone has announced that purchases of Kapas will cease after May 22. The Market Secretary advised farmers to bring their Kapas to the market by Wednesday to ensure they receive fair prices.

Meanwhile, farmers in Khargone are facing difficulties obtaining BT cotton seeds. The district administration and agriculture department are distributing seeds at seven centers. A total of 641,551 seed packets from 72 companies are slated for distribution. Khargone district, the state's largest Kapas producer, has set a target to sow Kapas in 225,000 hectares this year.

- Sendhwa: Arrival 22 quintals; Price - Rs 6,225 to Rs 7,200 per quintal
- Jobat: Arrival 13 quintals; Price - Rs 6,500 to Rs 6,900 per quintal
- Bhikangaon: Arrival 4 quintals; Price - Rs 4,250 to Rs 7,276 per quintal
- Khargone: Arrival 4 quintals; Price - Rs 5,360 to Rs 7,255 per quintal
- Alirajpur: Arrival 3 quintals; Price - Rs 7,000 per quintal
