Mumbai, June 13 (Commodities Control): Chilly prices exhibited a mixed trend across major markets. In Guntur, the majority of varieties traded stable, while Khammam experienced a decline in prices. Warangal presented a mixed scenario with Teja chilly prices rising and Wonder Hot prices falling. Local sources attributed this uncertainty to good rainfall activity across major chilli-growing regions, leading to buyer concerns over potential changes in acreage.

The monsoon has now covered all chilly-growing regions of South India, facilitating sowing activities. Despite this, prices continue to trade at multi-year lows, which is expected to result in lower acreage, maintaining high sentiment in spot markets.

The total arrivals of chillies amounted to 73,000 bags, with the majority coming from cold storage facilities. Guntur reported 60,000 bags, a decrease of 5,000 bags from the previous session. Khammam reported 5,000 bags, down by 8,000 bags from the prior session.

As markets resume operations post the summer break, prices are anticipated to remain supported in the short term. However, with cold storages full, indicating ample supply, and expected low export demand, a rapid price increase seems unlikely.
