New Delhi, June 14 (Commodities Control): Prices for chillies in major markets have shown mixed trends. In Guntur, most varieties traded stably, while Khammam saw a price increase. Warangal displayed mixed results, with Teja variety prices rising and 341 variety prices falling.
Local sources reported that buyers are concerned about the strong rainfall across major chilli-growing regions, raising uncertainty about the potential decrease in acreage.
The monsoon has now covered South India's chilli-growing regions. Despite this, prices remain at multi-year lows, and acreage is expected to stay low, boosting sentiment in the spot markets.
Market arrivals totaled 61,000 bags, primarily from cold storage facilities. Guntur received 50,000 bags, down by 10,000 from the previous session. Khammam saw 3,000 bags, a decrease of 2,000, while Warangal remained stable at 8,000 bags. Non-air-conditioned bag arrivals were between 14,000 and 15,000 across markets.
Prices are expected to stay stable in the short term as markets reopen after the summer break. However, full cold storage facilities indicate adequate supply, and low export demand may limit any significant price increases.
