MUMBAI, 19 Jun (Commoditiescontrol): Sharad Pawar, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lift the ban on sugar exports and relax the current limits on ethanol blending. Pawar emphasized that if these demands are not met, necessary actions will be taken through democratic means.

During his three-day tour of the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, Pawar addressed the issue, stating, "The central government has implemented several measures that adversely affect farmers. The ban on sugar exports prevents farmers from receiving better prices for their produce. Additionally, restrictions on ethanol blending have reduced the income of sugar factories."

Pawar criticized the government's approach, highlighting the financial strain on farmers. "While the central government ensures lower prices for farmers' produce, the costs of agricultural inputs have risen. This has resulted in farmers suffering losses on both ends of the supply chain," he said.

In a letter to Prime Minister Modi, Pawar urged the government to take prompt action to address these concerns. "I am hopeful that the Prime Minister will respond positively to these issues. If not, we will have to take necessary steps in a democratic manner, and I will need the support of farmers to do so," Pawar added.

Pawar's extensive tour of Baramati is seen as a strategic move to demonstrate the challenges that the ruling party may face in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

This report underscores Pawar's call for immediate policy changes to support farmers, signaling potential political repercussions if the demands are not addressed.
