MUMBAI, 18 April (Commoditiescontrol) Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, announced on Monday that India's target of mixing 20 per cent ethanol with petrol by 2030 had been brought forward to 2025, and the goal will be achieved within the next year under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. Speaking at the global conference on compressed biogas, the minister stated that the biofuel target for 2022 had been accomplished five months before the scheduled time.
During the conference, discussions centred on the availability of feedstock, compressed biogas offtake, fermented organic manure, carbon credits, and other relevant topics. The minister emphasized that compressed biogas (CBG) is a top priority for the country and that many states are working towards increasing its production.
The minister also spoke about the challenges associated with CBG production, highlighting the need for collaboration between the public, private, state, and central governments. He added that the necessary plant and machinery, capital, and feed are all readily available in India, and agriculture is an essential component of CBG production.
The ministry plans to continue promoting the practical success of CBG and its implementation throughout the country. For example, the IFGE-CBG Producers Forum, supported by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is organizing the conference to inform industry stakeholders about the government's initiatives for the development of compressed biogas and to identify areas where policy modifications are necessary.
The conference is being held on April 17 and 18 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, to provide a platform for dialogue and collaboration between industry leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders. (By Commoditiescontrol Bureau; +91-9820130172)
