New Delhi, October 18 (Commodities Control): In a significant decision to benefit farmers across the nation, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has endorsed an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi crops for the upcoming Marketing Season of 2024-25.
The enhancement in MSP is a part of the government’s continued effort to guarantee that farmers receive fair compensation for their yield. Lentil (masur) has witnessed the most substantial increment in MSP, receiving a boost of Rs.425 per quintal. It's followed by rapeseed & mustard, which has seen an increase of Rs.200 per quintal. Additionally, wheat and safflower have been granted an increment of Rs.150 per quintal each, while barley and gram have been augmented by Rs.115 and Rs.105 per quintal, respectively.
Below is a tabulated representation of the newly approved MSPs compared with the previous two years:
* The mentioned cost incorporates all paid-out expenses, such as those related to hired human labor, machinery, leased land rent, material inputs like seeds, fertilizers, irrigation charges, building and equipment depreciation, working capital interest, diesel/electricity for pump operations, and other miscellaneous expenses. It also considers the imputed value of family labor.
This policy decision underlines the commitment of the Indian government to ensure that the agrarian community is well-compensated and remains motivated to produce efficiently, thereby ensuring food security for the nation.
